Solah in a 3 Way Countback
Some normality between all the recent Ambrose & Team events returned at the Harden Country Club course last Saturday, as an Individual Stableford was conducted in a break in the recent wet Spring weather.
Despite, or maybe because of the weather, the course is playing an absolute treat and spoiling us for a November’s Golf. It is usually about this time of the year when the course has burnt off and the lies are hard whilst the run is long. We are still playing winter golf and the greenery is just ridiculous. More weather on the way but again clearing for this Saturday Wooohooooo.
A fair field faced the starter on Saturday into the gloomy skies but fair golfing conditions. With no breakaway scoring happening, the best scorers managed to merely play to their handicap, of which there were three who knocked out 36 points. These included Craig Henman who has been in a fair purple patch of late, Bernie Parker who is always sitting in the box seat, one out and one back ready to pounce and a Solah.
This time it was the other Solah !! With wife Jacqui claiming all the limelight of late, it was finally good to see David Solah come out and claim the Glory. David finished better than the other two esteemed gentlemen despite recording 36 points also, and claimed the boost onto his Club Card with the Vouchers.
Balls for the day were awarded to our two unlucky count-backers, Craig Henman, Bernie Parker and also to Ashley Hall not too far back on 35 points.
Bray Water Invitational
The previous weekend saw one of our Club special events. We rolled from 2 Man Ambrose at our Annual Australian Championships, back into 4 person ambrose for the Bray Water Invitational. In its second year of running, the Family Irrigation business that is a big name in the Golf Industry on the eastern seaboard of Australia, fell in love with our little course and keep coming back to sponsor a drawcard event each year.
Despite the Month and the Season it Was fairly heavy going on the day yet a very solid field set sail.
In the Gross division, a very tidy score of 60 shots off the beater saw 2 groups of 4 share the honours, yet on a countback, Chris Lynch, Dennis Brady, Tom Lynch & Wayne Cochrane took the big event with 60 or 11 under par. The grouping they pipped however did pick up the Nett event and this included locals Harry Sachs, Simon Glover, John Hawkins (he finally found his golf sticks again ….) and Ben Irving who returned a Nett score of 54 or 17 shots under par. Hot golf in cold wet playing conditions.
Runners Up in the Gross were Ev Shea, Jamie Cantrill, Jeanette Elliott & Peter Elliott with 63 off the stick (8 under), whilst in the Nett Division, runners up were David James, Jacqui Solah, David Solah, and Simon Oakes with 58 nett.
Long Drive for the day went to Jamie Cantrill with his big green Epic, whilst nearest the pins went to Jackie Solah on Hole 10 and Graham Murray on Hole 18.
Again a BIG thanks to our sponsors Bray Water.
