Kuhn Edges Out Cassidy in Par Event
Well, the Club throws in one of these events each year for nostalgia reasons, and it’s clear that the students of the University of the Third Age know exactly how to play them. Last week was a par event for a Harden Country Club Trophy. Scores are either better than handicap for a plus, on handicap for a square and worse than handicap for a minus. With +18 the maximum and -18 the worst anyone can do, it brought quite a few in the field unstuck.
Despite all of the above technical stuff, the winner on a countback with +3 was none other than Eric Kuhn. Eric is enjoying his golf at present and is a wily cunning fox in events like this. Eric has managed to just see off the in-form Darrel Cassidy with a back 9 countback this week, Darrell also recording a plus 3.
Balls went back to +1 this week and were awarded to Darrel Cassidy (+3), Michael Baldry (+2), Ron Kerr (+1) and Brian Wales (+1). Ronnie Page must have near frightened himself dropping his tee shot into not quite 5 ft at the Bendigo Bank Hole in One Hole this week. Ron picks up the extra ball for nearest the pin. At least there was a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow with him and Kevin showing the other end of the spectrum at -6…
Preston Wins First Monthly Medal for Ladies
The ladies began their season last Saturday and vied for the Pat Walker Trophy and Monthly Medal & Putting Competitions.
Alexa Preston has begun this year’s campaign strongly, playing 4 better than her handicap for a sweet round of 70 nett to collect the day’s trophy and the first Monthly Medal. Alexa edged out Jeanette Elliott who played to her handicap returning a 74 nett in still tough and dry fairway conditions. In the putting competition, Jeanette was too good for the field proving she is not just a good pitcher and chipper, taking this out with only 29 putts.
On Saturday the ladies will be playing an Individual Stableford for a Club Trophy, whilst the men will be playing an Individual Stableford also for the Cullinga Mines Gift Trophy provided by Michael Baldry.
See you around the traps, golfers. Alby
