Harden gets ready to host visitors from near and far for its signature annual event - the Harden Kite Festival - this weekend, Saturday, October 12 from 10 am to 4 pm.

Professional kite flyers make the trek to Harden each year to fly some truly magnificent giant kites and thrill the other visitors who flock to the small town to watch the spectacle.

While the kites are the main attraction, they are not the only thing on offer at this affordable, family-friendly event.

There are loads of free activities for the kids, including face painting, sand pit and lego building.

The kids can make their own kite before taking it along to the kite decorating and kite flying workshops and heading out to the public kite flying area to try their hand at flying their own creation.

Grab an All Day Rides Pass at the gate if you haven’t already organised one.

Take a wander through the market stalls, exhibits and displays - from the car club display and lego exhibition to the big kite display, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

There will be community entertainment - live music, dancing, a circus aerial show and much more for those who just want to sit back and enjoy the atmosphere.

Even large families will find this event affordable at just $2 entry per person at the gate. People can purchase food and drinks from the barbecue and vendors on the day or take along a packed picnic lunch.

The Harden Kite Festival is held at the Harden Picnic Racecourse, Burley Griffin Way, and is organised by a group of local volunteers with the support of the community.
