Herefords take out Boorowa Commercial Cattle Competition

The Commercial Cattle Competition of the Boorowa Show was held on the 8th February 2019.

Due to the season, drought followed by severe storm damage, entry numbers were down and calves were early weaned by some entrants which was cause for discussion about the pros and cons of early weaning. There were 5 entrants.

Considering all that entrants had to contend with the cattle were presented in good condition due to appropriate management decisions.

Breeds represented were Angus, Red Angus, Herefords and Angus/Hereford cross.

The judge for the day was Harry White from Coffin Creek Angus Stud at Mudgee. Unfortunately, the other judge Doug Tozer had to withdraw due to ill health and he is wished a speedy recovery.

Thanks to Harry White for being the judge and for giving insight into his decisions.

The results were:

1st John & Murray Dymock - Red Angus 2nd Mick & Jane Corkhill - Hereford 3rd Peter & Amber Kelly - Angus

Cows & Calves

1st David & Louise Crawford - Angus 2nd Mick & Jane Corkhill - Hereford 3rd Peter & Amber Kelly - Angus

Encouragement Award

David & Louise Crawford – Angus The judge commended the Crawfords for taking the early weaning decision which meant that the cows would be in reasonable condition going into winter and be able to calve successfully.

The Commercial Cattle Committee of the Boorowa Show would like to thank the sponsors Corkhill Ag and Thompsons Rural Supplies Boorowa and also Kerry Connor of Boehringer. 15 spectators spent the afternoon touring around on a bus having an enjoyable and informative day.

The Committee would like to thank the entrants for putting forward their cattle and spectators for coming along.
