As is common, the Hospital Auxiliary members worked tirelessly to ensure the High Tea on Saturday, April 1 ran smoothly.

St John’s Hall was the perfect venue for the 120 guests to enjoy themselves for the afternoon.

The tables were set with linen, lace and embroidered cloths, linen serviettes and the best china teacups, saucers and plates.

Three-tiered cake stands were laden with the most delicious variety of slices baked with love by the Auxiliary ladies.

After everyone was seated, warm savouries, tiny quiches and zucchini slice along with mixed finger sandwiches were served.

Fillings included corned-beef, home-cooked by member, Frank Baker. Auxiliary ladies served tea and coffee from tea trolleys and the hall was filled with happy chatter.

Hospital Auxiliary President, Janice Ward welcomed everyone and told them how much all of the members were appreciated.

She mentioned Chris Page and Dorothy Shepherd who had both been recognised for outstanding service with NSW UHA Life Membership, Patron Nancy McGregor who had arranged flowers and prepared some of the chicken and celery filling, and Tilla Davidson who had been a member for almost 20 years.

Younger members were also mentioned, including girls who joined in Year 11, Michell Cram and Elizabeth Bragg, who in their gap year helped at the Open Garden Day and remained members.

She thanked all the other members who worked so well as a team to raise money to buy needed equipment for the hospital, stating that all members were valued.

Ms Ward also encouraged new members, men and women who wanted to join in and enjoy working at the group’s activities, not simply join because membership of $2.50 doesn’t help much with all equipment being so expensive.

The raffle was drawn and prizes, vouchers to local businesses purchased by the Auxiliary, were won.

Pauline Davidson won the $150 voucher, Wilma Causer won the $100 voucher and Catherine Powell took home the $50 voucher.

Lucky Door prize winners were Dione Ryan, John Arthur Coltman and Carol Cole.

Janice Ward said the Auxiliary members were very grateful that St John’s Church allowed them to hold the event in their lovely hall. “We are also thankful that the community supports our events,” Ms Ward said.

“We are now looking forward to our coffee morning at the Services and Citizens Club on Thursday, June 22 and our open garden day on Saturday, October 21 (garden date to be confirmed).”

“We have two beautiful gardens, but if anyone would like to share their garden and raise funds for a very worthy cause, please let me or Lyn Freudenstein know.”

“We cleared about $3,000 thanks to our generous supporters and already that has been allocated to purchasing a much-needed Matris Rooming-in-Crib for the maternity section of the hospital. This crib will benefit mothers recovering from a caesarean birth, caring for their babies.More details when it arrives.”
