The Boorowa Local Health Advisory Committee (LHAC) is a group of community-minded volunteers who continuously advocate for better health.

They held their first meeting and election of office bearers just recently.

Marg Kelly was elected LHAC Chair, with David Marsh as Vice Chair.

Debbie Rheinberger was elected as Communications Officer and Jenny Carter has taken on the role of Secretary.

This group will play a key role in making Boorowa and the broader community a healthier and happier place by advocating for necessary health services that rural towns are typically deprived of.

The current LHAC members consist of Marg Kelly, David Marsh, Debbie Rheinberger, Jenny Carter, Lyn Diskon, Taryn Riles, Trudy Mahoney, Trish Ryan, Tara Barrett, Jane Campbell and James Blackwell.

Marg Kelly has invited all members of the community to contact the group to discuss what health services were lacking in Boorowa.

“We aim to improve communication about health services in our area and as part of our role as advocates is to ensure community sentiment is communicated to health providers,” Ms Kelly said.

“We would like local people to feel that they can come and talk to us about their concerns and provide feedback so that we can communicate these issues effectively with the MLHD and the MPHN.”

David Marsh has lived in Boorowa since 1971 and still an active farmer here.

“I was recently elected as Boorowa LHAC Vice Chair,” Mr Marsh said.

“I joined LHAC to be part of a group that will be a connection between the community and the health system.

“The health system is multi-layered and complex.

“One of my aims as a member of LHAC is to help make it easier for people to be aware of what is available to them in the health system, and how they can access those services.”

The establishment of the group means that Boorowa joins 28 other LHACs across the Murrumbidgee region, all advocating for better health outcomes and representing the needs of their community.

If you wish to contact this important group, you can contact the community by emailing Marg Kelly at marg@lugano.net.au; David Marsh at marsh.allendale1@gmail.com; Jenny Carter at jenny.a.carter@gmail.com or Deb Rheinberger at debbie.rheinberger@gmail.com.
