Irving Family Reunites In Harden Murrumburrah

130 descendants attended the Irving family reunion.
The well known Irving family held their family reunion in Harden Murrumburrah on Saturday the 29th of March.
Member of the family Christine Howard said, “Descendants of Jack and Annie Irving gathered to celebrate the lives of these two wonderful people who married at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Rozelle in 1921.”
They settled at “Gobar” at McMahons Reef, Harden, where they raised four boys and a daughter.
Jack was born in Sydney.
His mother passed away when he was just five years old.
His father placed Jack and his two younger sisters in an orphanage in Manly.
Jack moved to Jugiong in his teens, in the care of Mrs O’Mara who operated a hotel.
Jack worked across several properties in the Gobarralong district before he bought “Gobar” in 1908.
Annie was born in Harden and worked as a nanny to the Osborne children at “Redbank.”
Jack and Annie met at a dance in McMahons Reef.
“The memory of Jack and Annie will forever live on through their descendants, Bill, Jim, Jerry (all deceased), John and Doreen. A son Aubury died in infancy,” said Christine.
“There are at present 260 descendants.”
“Families of Bill, Jim and Doreen attended a day of sports and games with children and adults participating in fun activities.”
“The highlights were the tug of war and wife carrying race.”
130 descendants attended the reunion, travelling from Brisbane, the Gold Coast, the Central Coast, Sydney, Victoria, Canberra and all over NSW.
“The day concluded with dinner and dancing for the 130 who made the reunion a great success.”
Plans are underway for the next one,” said Christine.
