Boorowa is in the midst of the biggest golfing events of the year. For women, it is the Canemumbola Cup, which was held on the 25th October 2021.

The cup is named after Mount Canemumbola, the mountain that oversees the quiet township of Boorowa.

This year’s winner was Jenny Twarloh, while Leanne Farrell took home the Bindi Cup and Marie Martin Memorial Trophy.

Now it’s all systems go for the men’s Gungewalla Cup, which is due to be held on Saturday, 20th November 2021. The Gungewalla Cup is thus named because the tournament was first sponsored in 1926 by Mr and Mrs H.C. Stevenson, who owned the ‘Gungewalla’ property in Boorowa.

The Cup has been played every year since, except for a hiatus from 1942-1947. The first winner of this prestigious award was L. L. Williams, and the winner last year was Richard Hall.

To participate in the 36-hole Gungewalla Cup, one must be a member of the Boorowa Recreation Club, and if past experience is anything to judge by, Boorowa will see an influx of Club members from as far away as Canberra and Sydney on the 20th of November.

Entries into the Gungewalla Cup must be received by November 19 so that all players can participate in the golf Calcutta. The Calcutta is drawn at 7pm, so why not come along, have some fun and grab a great meal in the bargain? Calcutta tickets are available at the Club for $2 each.

For further information about the Gungewalla Cup please go to the Boorowa Recreation Club page on Facebook or call (02) 6385 3224.
