Just A Farmer is a heartfelt and powerful film that captures the resilience, struggles, and triumphs of rural life.

The Harden Local Health Advisory Committee and Harden Murrumburrah Regional Development Corporation (HRDC) have teamed up to bring a free screening of Australian film Just A Farmer to Harden.

The screening will take place at the Harden Country Club this Saturday, the 1st of November at 11am.

The film captures the resilience, struggles and triumphs of rural life and sparks much needed conversations about the mental health challenges faced by farmers in rural Australia.

HRDC’s CEO, Melissa Pinney said “HRDC is thrilled to be working in collaboration with LHAC to bring a community screening to Harden-Murrumburrah.”

“I went along to the community screening at Boorowa earlier this year and it’s a truly powerful film. Many of the film’s cast live and work on land where Just A Farmer was filmed, so it’s very authentic.”

Leila McDougall, the writer, producer, and lead actress of Just A Farmer, said, “This film is not just about telling a story, it’s about starting a conversation that is long overdue.”

“Mental health in farming communities is a real issue, and I believe Just A Farmer can help bring much-needed change. We need to stop telling farmers to be more resilient and start showing them the empathy, respect, and appreciation they deserve.”

“We are so proud of the impact Just A Farmer has had, but our work is far from over. This is just the beginning of a larger movement to raise awareness of mental health issues in farming communities and show the world how much we owe to our farmers. We will continue to use the power of storytelling to bring communities together and inspire change,” said Leila.

Following the screening in Harden, ice cream will be served and there will be a Q and A panel session.

Marilyn Wales, LHAC’s Chair said, “As well as the film’s writer, producer, and lead actress, Leila McDougall, the panel will include local health professionals.”

“There will also be an opportunity for people to stay after the Q&A session if they would like to. Several organisations will be set up to share some great information and advice for those interested in learning more about services available in our local area.”

Sponsors of the event include the Black Dog Ride, Murrumbidgee Local Health District, Harden Country Club, The Ohana Collection, and TerryWhite Chemmart Harden.

Tickets are free but required for catering purposes. Tickets are available at https://events.humanitix.com/just-a-farmer-harden-murrumburrah-screening
