Kath Garner - Cakes by Kath

Cakes by Kath is owned by Kath whose passion for baking and decorating cakes started as a child. The idea for the business came from the birthday parties she threw for her children.

“As a single mum, I wanted to make every single birthday special, so I always made themed cakes for my children and had as many kids there as possible.” Kids at the parties would see the cakes and friends would ask if she could bake for their children, so she started her business 6 years ago.

“I like to see people’s faces when I take their cake to them and open the box. If it is for children, I always make it bigger for them, my motto is you can never have too much cake!”

A year ago, Wilders asked her to come on board as a decorator and it’s something she loves to do.

Kath fits her business around her job with community transport and her passion for horses. She’s president of the Young All Western Breeds Association (YAWBA), a not-for-profit club she started with a group of older friends who wanted to keep riding.

“We have a show at the end of each month, we try to have 8 shows a year which have around 30 horses. A few of us go to national shows. We all back each other up and help each other with our horses! It’s a fantastic sport and enables us who are older to keep riding!”

Kath donates two of her cakes to each YAWBA weekend to raise money for the club.
