The Lambing Flat Young Fellowship of Australian Writers NSW Writing Competition turns 43 this year and entries are closing soon.
The annual short story and poetry competition is held in conjunction with the National Cherry Festival, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
Entries for the competition close next week, on Friday the 19th of September. Lambing Flat Young FAW NSW Inc President Jennifer Haynes is encouraging everyone to get their entries in.
“The Lambing Flat Young Fellowship of Australian Writers NSW Inc. seeks to encourage poets and writers of all ages to ‘have a go.’ Blind judging takes place for the Open Section of the competition.”
The competition has grown over the years, attracting entries from all over Australia and include a Schools Section, offering free entry to students. School students are able to submit a maximum of one story and one poem into the competition.
“In response to feedback this year student categories are Years 1 & 2, 3 & 4, and 5 & 6 for primary and for secondary 7, 8 & 9 and 10, 11 & 12. Students may enter individually or as part of a class project. Past winners include those who were home schooled,” said Jennifer.
Entry forms are available from Council Chambers, Visitor Information Centre, Southern Cross Cinema and the S & C Club or by emailing lambingflatfaw.competitions@gmail.com or by phoning 408 699 507.
To celebrate the group’s 40th anniversary in 2022, an anthology titled Nuggets of Gold was published, featuring first place competition winning entries from 1982 to 2022. It also includes a history of the branch with photographs and material from branch archives.
