The Lions Club of Young’s Annual Quilt Show was held on the final day of May and the first day of June.

The Annual Quilt Show displays beautiful quilts, attracting entries from all over, alongside stallholders, displays and workshops.

In its 16th year, the Show also holds raffles, gives visitors the chance to vote for their favourite quilt with the viewers choice section and has a guest speaker.

Co-ordinator Marie Tame said this year’s guest speaker had a difficult job.

“Our guest speaker and opener of the show, Michelle Marvig, was given the unenviable job of judging the Carmel Price Memorial Award which was awarded to

Jane Sibley for her Challenge Quilt ‘Remembering Carmel’ featuring a family tree.”

“Lots of tears for the Carmel Challenge display which will stay with the show from this year forward.”

Results for the Show are:

Section 1:

1st Place - Mariner’s Compass by Mary Mill
2nd Place - Aussie, Aussie, Aussie by Sharon Dron
3rd Place - Victoria Twist by Janine Pollard

Section 2:

1st Place - Heartstrings by Lyn Lawrence
2nd Place - Heartstrings by Janet Mooney
3rd Place - Rainforest Rhapsody by Carol Glasgow

Section 3: Carmel’s Challenge

1st Place - 12” block with a digitised photo encompassing 100,000 stitches by Julie Elliot
2nd Place - Starburst by Carol Glasgow
3rd Place Remembering Carmel by Jane Sibley

Section 4:

1st Place - Vivid Circles of Pretty by Alison Joshua
2nd Place - Out to Lunch by Sandra Smith
3rd Place - Carmel’s Jewel Box by Annabelle Sullivan
4th Place - Gale’s Challenge featuring Irish themes by Gale Mendham

Along with the display of eye-catching quilts, the Quilt Show also has a display in the foyer. This year, the display focused on health services.

“Our display in the foyer featured the history of nurses uniforms, Lions Eye Health, diabetes and Lions Foundations information, catching the eye of our visitors exiting the hall.”

Marie said that while the Show has changed over the years, one thing will remain the same.

“The show has evolved over 16 years, a service that will continue, but it will always be an event for our extended community to share their love of quilting, friendships made and their assistance to our club to provide for those in need.”

There was a long list of people to thank for their help in putting together the Show.

“Thank you to our sponsors, stallholders, quilters, Boys to the Bush also helped our team in setting up and of course the visitors that streamed through our doors over the weekend.”

“Thanks also to the Price family for assisting in the setting up, presenting awards and also helping to dismantle the 102 items on display.”

“Finally and never forgotten our great team of Lions who were there all weekend, thank you,” said Marie.
