The Lions Club of Young held a dinner meeting on the 10th of August.

The meeting began with President Geoff Freudenstein welcoming members and guests, followed by an address from District Governor for 2020/2021 Stuart Freudenstein. Geoff Freudenstein’s theme for his year as President is ‘cherish what we have by sharing what we can.’ In Stuart’s address, he described the District goals for the year ahead.

During the night, Young Lions Club Incorporated donated funds to four local organizations, the Young Cadets, the Young Regional School of Music, the Young District Scouts and the Young District Girl Guides. The donation to the Young Cadets was accepted by Major Philip Mitchell, the donation to the Young Regional School of Music was accepted by Keith Doldissen, the donation to the Young District Scouts was accepted by scout Noah Ryan and the donation to the Young District Girl Guides was accepted by Pauline Davidson. All of the donations were presented by Immediate Past President for 2019/2020 Dennis Foster.

Donations for the year ending June 2020 totalled $30, 380. In addition to the organisations who were presented donations, donations were also made to other local causes and various Lions Foundations, including Lions NSW-ACT Save Sight Foundation, Childhood Cancer Research Foundation and Lions Prostate Research Foundation Project.

Immediate Past President for 2019/2020 Dennis Foster also presented two special awards. He presented the President’s Award to Jan Foreman for ongoing service as well as a special plaque to Philip Hewson.

President Geoff appealed to members to join him on a trip to the Guerie Lions Club. Members have been invited to help with the Drought Relief Appeal. This would mean travelling to the farm of past District Governor Anne Jones, where hay and personal items would be distributed to surrounding farmers and businesses. This will take place on the 12th of September.

The Lions Club of Young would welcome any new members who might be interested in serving their community while enjoying the fellowship of other members. Along with service, the Lions emphasise the important aspect of membership: having fun. If you are interested, contact President Geoff Freudenstein.
