Local Businesses Support CEF
As the Country Education Foundation (CEF) of Young begins interviews for the 2020 round of funding, three local businesses are supporting with donations.
In the past month, the South West Slopes Credit Union, the Young S and C Club and Young Eyes have all made donations. This allows the Committee to provide support to school leavers heading to TAFE, private college or university in 2020.
Local Foundation President Mrs Leanne Parkman said that applications had now closed and the Committee will soon be processing 18 applications and conducting interviews. “Many students have stated that the drought has impacted on their parent’s ability to support them going forward and they are trying to access help before securing part work in another location.”
Leanne said that funding is available to students from the Young TAFE Campus, Young High School and Hennessy Catholic College and it is hoped that the money students receive will allow them to continue their studies or purchase items such as laptops, lab equipment and computer software to get them started. “It is a big change for our local students; they must move away from home and incur costs such as rent and electricity that city kids don’t always have to bear. We hope that the community will get behind us and support those who have applied, the more donations we receive the more we can give in the coming weeks,” Leanne said.
The organising Committee of the Triple 000 Golf Day being held on the 28th of February is also supporting the CEF this year. If any other local organisations or businesses would like to donate, please phone 0438 002 586.
