Long Drive For Drought Sets Off

Hilltops local Brad Chaplin has set off on this year’s Long Drive For Drought, raising vital funds for farmers.
The Long Drive For Drought is an outback adventure that sees more than 50 40 Series Landcruisers travel through rural communities raising funds for charities Farm Angels and Aussie Farmers.
“The drive’s aim is to not only raise funds through donations for Farm Angels, but to also inject financial support into local businesses in isolated regions through meals and events while also creating a social gathering for locals in the area,” said Brad.
Farm Angels was established as Drought Angels in 2014 to respond to the needs of primary producers impacted by prolongerd drought, but has since expanded to provide support to primary producers impacted by all natural disasters.
Farm Angels now provide financial assistance, food hampers, care packs and mental wellbeing support to primary producers affected by drought, flood, fire and plagues in over 1300 communities across Australia.
This year’s trek will see Brad travel from Nindigully, down through Walgett, Bourke, Tilpa and Wilcannia, across to Cobar, Coonamble and Tamworth and then back up through Glen Innes to Stanthorpe.
Four generous local businesses are helping Brad with his campaign this year, supporting his drive for charity.
Watson Toyota, Young Industrial Supplies, McDonald Signs and Trophies and Young Tyrepower are all sponsoring Brad on his drive.
“With their help, I will hopefully be able to complete a 4,000 km trip over two weeks in a 58 year old 3 speed Landcruiser. No power steering and no air con but plenty of dirt roads, corrugating and dust!” said Brad.
Brad and his wife Ellen have also put together a fundraising calendar with 100% of profits going towards Farm Angels.
The calendar features twelve 40 series vehicles from all over Australia, along with interesting mechanical diagrams and maintenance information.
