Murrumburrah Writer’s Group hosts firefighting author
Vivien Thomson
Author Vivien Thomson AFSM will be the guest speaker at the next Murrumburrah Writer’s Group meeting on June 27th.
Vivien is a member of the Writer’s Group and will be discussing her book ‘Ashes of the Firefighters’, which details the long-term effects of fighting fires. She will also discuss ‘What You Wouldn’t Believe’, which she created in collaboration with a number of firefighting colleagues. It is largely a pictorial, day by day account of the January 2003 ACT bushfires.
She is currently employed as the District Assistant with the New South Wales Rural Fire Service (NSWRFS) and says she’s broken the ‘smoke ceiling’ by being forthright, robust and confident in building her leadership methodologies.
She was the first female in the ACT to receive the Australian Fires Services Medal in 2004 for her outstanding service of more than 32 years firefighting.
All are welcome to attend the meeting. Entry is $2.00 for members and $3.00 for non-members. Copies of ‘The Ashes Of The Firefighters’ book will be available and Vivien will be happy to autograph/sign.
Vivien Thomson’s talk will be held at the Murrumburrah Court House, Corner of Vernon and Albury Streets, Murrumburrah at 7pm on the 27th of June.
