Eddie Mowat’s All Colours Are Beautiful exhibition will be on display at Murringo Barracks Art Gallery from Saturday, September 23.

Murringo Barracks Art Gallery will display former local Eddie Mowat’s exhibition All Colours Are Beautiful from Saturday, September 23.

Mowat grew up in Murringo and moved to Canberra as a young teenager.

His passion for colour and art led him to street art as a young man.

“Street art is public art for the people,” Mowat said.

“It is always temporary in its nature, as murals deteriorate over time due to the harsh Australian climate and they are often painted over or added to by other artists.”

The ACT Government supports street art, with 30 legal practice sites for artists in Canberra.

Mowat has painted in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

In recent years he has been studying visual arts at CIT.

He’s been commissioned to paint many large murals in Canberra including the Mandalay Bus, Gough Whitlam and two internal levels of Fenner House which is now used as part hotel, part accommodation.

Mowat has also completed some local murals including The Tribal Juice Bar and the Young Mosque.

This young man’s work is fun and lively.

Stencil and Pop art go hand in hand with graffiti style because you’re using a repetitive image.

Mowat’s use of strong, vibrant and contrasting colour makes his work vivid and engaging.

His brand is his graffiti skull.

“Skulls never go out of fashion,” he said.

“Enjoy the graffiti shapes and colours, you don’t need to read the words in the graffiti, it’s the art that should speak.”

All Colours Are Beautiful is an exhibition where Mowat returns to his childhood and his connection with the country in Murringo.

“I enjoy a road trip visiting the country and these art works reflect that,” he said.

The exhibition officially opens at 10 am on Saturday, September 23 and will remain on display until Sunday, October 29.

Gallery hours are Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm.

The gallery will also be open on Monday, October 2 for the long weekend.
