The NSW Variety Bash rolled into Young on the first stop of their seven day, 3000km long venture across NSW on Sunday the 19th of May.

The Variety Bash attended the Young Pony Club at the Young Showground to deliver a donation to Riding For The Disabled (RDA) Young.

Juliet McFarlane from Riding For The Disabled Young was thankful for the donation, which will go towards much needed equipment for the organisation.

“The Variety Bash donated a large cheque to Riding for the Disabled which will be used to purchase new helmets, riding boots and replace some worn harnesses.”

“These are expensive but very necessary items and RDA is so grateful for this donation. They also donated sporting equipment, sunscreen and colouring books for the local schools in Young.”

The NSW Variety Bash is in its 33rd year and does a yearly trek in themed cars across NSW, delivering grants to ru

ral schools and community organisations, helping fund vital educational and recreational equipment.

Juliet said, “This children’s charity is an organisation which raises funds and injects money and fun into every community it drives through. This year was no exception with many of the 255 drivers dressed up to match their car.”

Variety Bash entrants were welcomed to the Showground with a delicious lunch.

“Riding for the Disabled provided a variety of food for lunch and some “fuel” in the form of slices, cakes and fruit to keep them going until their next stop in West Wyalong.”

“Judging by the smiles and empty plates, our home made soups, chicken and meat dishes were well received by this enthusiastic crowd.”

Riding For The Disabled Young also received a second donation on the day, courtesy of Woolworths.

“Woolworths gave us a $500 gift voucher to assist with our grocery expenses as well as donating a basket full of fruit.”

“2 volunteers from Woolworths also helped us serve lunch, which kept the crown moving. Their assistance was greatly appreciated and we thank Craig and Cameron very much for their cheer and help. The coffee, milo and popcorn were also enthusiastically received by RDA.”

Juliet thanked the community for making it such a special day.

“Thank you to the community members and volunteers who made endless cakes and slices, donated money and fruit.”
