Rotarians and other residents of Harden and Murrumburrah have been busily working on the Community Gardens throughout 2022.

They’ve volunteered many of their weekends to create an atmosphere that is welcoming to all and encouraged people to join in.

The time has come for the official opening of the Harden Murrumburrah Rotary Community Gardens.

The organiser of the community working bees, Rita O’Connor said the official opening would coincide with Rotary’s AGM on Sunday, March 5. “The official opening at 11 am,” Ms O’Connor said.

“Hopefully Steph Cooke will officiate the opening, but Mayor Roles will be there as well.”

“We would love the whole community to join with us.”

“It is a BYO picnic and people can bring picnic blankets or chairs and can come as a family or join with other families and make a day of it.”

Apple cucumbers, beans, zucchini, beetroot and garlic are all ready and waiting for someone to pick and enjoy at the community garden.

The two most recent working bees took place during January with people of all ages joining in to plant more vegetables, including carrots, radishes, silverbeet and lettuce.

Ms O’Connor said they had a wonderful working bee on January 20. “Planting, topping up garden beds, putting in more watering systems and installing the stone pavers painted by students from MHS,” Ms O’Connor said.

“On Tuesday’s working bee (January 24) we installed a floor for the greenhouse and tidied up dirt around the big gum and watered new seeds and plants.”

“Anyone of any age is very welcome to come and water, weed, plant and pick.”

“There’s a little job for everyone.”

Everyone within the community is invited to attend the official opening of the Community Garden, but more importantly, they are urged to visit the garden and utilise the fresh produce that is being grown.
