PAULA GEDDES - IN A PICKLE

Tree change inspires career change

Paula Geddes and her husband Peter offer quality handmade jams, pickles, relishes, chutneys, sauces, dry dip mixes, rubs and fruit butters in their new online business In A Pickle.

Their family moved to Young from the Central Coast in 2009. Previously, Paul worked a full time night shift role for the same company for 17 years.

“I thought I would take a break but found myself getting bored,” she said. Having made a tree change to Young with the young family including seven-year-old Bryce and four-year-old Kiara in the summer, there was a bounty of local fresh fruit and vegetables.

“I thought I would cook a few jars for myself but there was only a certain amount a family could eat. I ended up giving some away to family and friends but then decided to try and sell them at markets, making it the first market I ever did the Cowra Farmers Markets in mid-2010,” Paula said.

“My family has been incredibly supportive helping out at markets, packaging, labelling and cutting up produce.”

The family hosted market stalls for 10 years, doing at least one market a weekend. COVID-19 brought a halt to the markets, prompting the online set up. She said online sales made up for the market sales they missed.
