Congratulations to the club’s Grade 6 Pennant side on winning the Riverina Murray Finals played at Leeton over the weekend.
A total of 24 sides played in the sectional rounds of this grade with 8 sides contesting the finals. On Saturday afternoon Young played against Wagga Rules and defeated the Wagga side 64 shots to 60.
In the individual games Glen Seward, Michael Webb, Joe Read and Glen Benson won 23–14, Steve Walsh, Steve Joliffe, Rod Cummings and Graeme Edgerton lost 16–28 and Brian Christie, Darryle Miller, George Somerville and Cliff Traynor won 25–18.
In other games Ganmain defeated Lockhart 70–45, Leeton and District defeated West Wyalong S&C 72–40 and Yerong Creek defeated Tumut 68–66.
Both the semi–finals played on Sunday morning were close contests with Young defeating Yerong Creek 57–48 and Ganmain defeating Leeton and District 64–57. In the individual games for Young Glen Benson lost 12–22, Graeme Edgerton won 21–15 and Cliff Traynor won 24–11.
In the final Ganmain started strongly on all three rinks and after 30 ends they led 33–23.
After the completion of 45 ends Young had improved their position and the score was 42–all. With 60 ends completed Young led 61–54 but the next 2 ends saw that lead reduced to 62–58. On the final end Ganmain scored 3 shots to have Young the winners 62–61.
The individual scores for the Young teams were Glen Benson won 25–17, Graeme Edgerton lost 13–21 and Cliff Traynor won 24–23. The Young side will contest the State Finals to be held at the Charlestown and Lambton clubs in Newcastle at the end of June.
The Boorowa Ex–Services Grade 5 side played in the Region finals at Henty over the weekend. There were 4 sides involved and Boorowa defeated Griffith Exies 69–62 but lost to Narrandera in the final 83–49.
In local play on Thursday there were just 10 players taking part. Tom Preston, Brian McNair and Cliff Traynor won their game 26–18 and Tony Ruhl and Joe Bargwanna were the winners of the pairs game 19–18.
Saturday afternoon saw 14 players on the green with two games of pairs and a game of triples. In the triples game the winners were Chris Wright, Albert Carter and Les Fanning with a score of 24–14.
For the pairs games the winners were Vic Brown and Joe Bargwanna 23–13 and Brian McNair and Jono Watson 26–14.
