Playing Ditch Weight

The South Western District Fours Championships were played on Sunday at Cootamundra Country Club.

Due to the rain on Friday night the games originally set down for Saturday were postponed and played on Sunday.

In one of the morning games in the Open division David Ward, Russell Boyd, Damien Miller and David Quigley defeat the Cootamundra Ex–Services team of Adam New, Bill Rush, John Goggin and Peter Hoang 31–17.

The other game was contested by two teams from Harden with Chris Hocking, Tom Glover, Terry Ricketts and Brian Madden defeating Craig Phillis, Jake Fisher, Terry Smith and John Harriott 27–4.

The final saw David Quigley’s team get away to an early lead and they scored a clear-cut win by 26–10.

In the Seniors division Kevin Medcalf, Don O’Neill, Greg Fisher and Bob New from Cootamundra Ex–Services defeated John Cooper, Graeme Edgerton, Geoff Holt and Peter Watts 25–17 and Graeme Dennis, Dick Smith, Mike Barber and Terry McDonald also from Cootamundra Ex–Services defeated Col Parker, Joe Bargwanna, Col Powell and Cliff Traynor 24–15.

The final was a close contest with Terry McDonald’s team winning 18–15.

The winners will play in the Zone 8 finals at Young in July. Thanks to the organisers at Cootamundra for the work done in rescheduling the games.

There was no play at Young on Saturday. Play on Thursday afternoon saw 18 players involved in very pleasant conditions.

The highest margin for the day was 17 shots for the triples team of Milan Branko-vic, Phil Taylor and Tom Preston and this gave them the vouchers.

The other winning teams were Aldo Mal-vicino and Ian Schofield – 11 shots, Brian March and Harold Anderson – 10 shots and Tony Ruhl and Cliff Traynor – 3 shots.

The February–March competition for the Guy Pickering Charity Challenge started on Wednesday night.

The winning team for Wednesday night were ARMA Fabrications who won a count back against Win or Lose We Booze after both teams finished with 16 points.On Thursday night Bowl Terras, FATBBOTS and Mad Hatters Mark 2 all scored 15 points with FATBBOTS the winners of the count back.

Overall more than 80 players were involved on the two nights. The draws for the District Triples are on display. Young will host five games on Saturday morning with play to start at 9.30 am.

Players are reminded that entries for the District Pairs close on Thursday 18th February.

Entry details for the Club Singles are also on the notice board with entries closing on Saturday 27th February.

The teams for the first games in this season’s Pennant competition have been selected. Anyone who has been selected but is unavailable on Sunday 28th February should advise a selector as soon as possible.

To assist the selectors there is a separate sheet on the notice board where players can indicate any dates they know that they will be unavailable to play Pennants.
