B-Division-Winners

Winners of Division B for Friday Night Pairs Glen Seward and Glen Benson.

There was a much quieter week at the club from a bowls point of view following the conclusion of our tournaments.

One of the Friday Night Pairs games in which Jonno Watson and Brian Madden played Geoff Holt and Peter Watts was played on Wednesday night. Special thanks to the players involved for agreeing to be available at that time.

In a closely contested game Geoff and Peter led 19–17 going into the last end only for Brian to push the jack into the ditch with the last bowl of the game to give his team a score of 3 shots and a winning score of 20–19.

The last games for this competition were played on Friday night. In Division A there were a number of substitutes involved due to one player being injured and other players having family commitments.

In one game David Ward (substitute) and Peter Watts won the last 4 ends against Ivor Watkiss (substitute) and Matt Peisley to record a 20–16 win. The second game in that division saw Darryle Miller and Damien Miller play a 13–all draw against Steve Walsh (substitute) and George Somerville.

The winners of Division A were Jonno Watson and Brian Madden who won all 4 of their sectional games. The runners–up were Jake Fisher and Matt Peisley who with 2 wins and a margin of – 3 finished just ahead of Geoff Holt and Peter Watts who also had 2 wins and a margin of –7 shots.

In the B Division the two section winners played off in a final on Friday night with Glen Seward and Glen Benson opposed to Joe Bargwanna and Cliff Traynor.

This was a very close contest with the scores being level on four occasions including at 13–all after the last scheduled end. The extra end played to decide the winner saw Glen and Glen score 1 shot to win the division 14–13.

Thanks to all the teams that participated in the event – particularly to the three teams from Harden who were prepared to travel to Young on three or four occasions to compete.

Just 10 players were involved on Thursday afternoon. Harold Anderson and Ian Schofield won the pairs game 18–17 and Ian McKenzie, Albert Carter and Brian McNair won the triples game 19–12.

Saturday’s play was scheduled for a 10 am start to avoid the predicted hot weather. Ten players participated in quite pleasant conditions.

The highest winning margin was 8 shots achieved in a 19–11 win by Tom Preston, Brian McNair and Cliff Traynor. The other winning team was Ivor Watkiss and Mark Anderson with a score of 18–14.
