Play for the week started on Thursday afternoon with the morning’s doubtful weather keeping the numbers down to just 10 players. The afternoon conditions were quite pleasant.

The winners of the vouchers with a margin of 18 shots were Milan Brankovic and Joe Bargwanna. The other winning team consisted of Ned Kelly, Alan Gall and Cliff Traynor, who won their game by just one shot.

Saturday afternoon saw 20 players taking part in very warm conditions. Ian Gailey and Jonno Watson recorded the highest margin with a convincing win by 21 shots. This was just the right number for them to win the $200 jackpot.

The vouchers for the day went to Albert Carter and Les Fanning with a 16 shot margin.

Other winning teams were Brian March and Russell Boyd (11 shots), Milan Brankovic and Vic Brown (7 shots) and Tony Ruhl and Graeme Edgerton (4 shots).

On Sunday afternoon there were three games played in the Club Fours. John Cooper, Ian Schofield, Geoff Holt and Peter Watts were too consistent for Stewart Taylor, Kevin Bryant, Phil Taylor and Terry Mulligan and won 24–5.

The score in the game in which Brian Christie, Bob Ruhl, Peter Slater and Tom Preston played Tony Ruhl, Greg Woods, Damien Miller and David Quigley was 11–9 in David’s favour after 10 ends. David’s team then won 4 of the next 5 ends to extend their lead to 21–12 and despite Tom’s team getting back to 17–21, David’s team went on to win 25–18.

The final game saw Brad Douglas, James Freudenstein, Ged Hardman and Russel Boyd playing Colin Parker, Joe Bargwanna, Geoff DeBritt and Cliff Traynor. After 12 ends, Cliff’s team led 16–9 but 2 ends later the score was 16 all. Russell’s team moved to a lead of 22–17 and at the start of the final end they led 23–21. The game was decided with the final bowl. Cliff’s team held 2 shots to force a draw but Russell played a great bowl to cut out one of those shots and the final score was 23–22.

The District Mixed Pairs Championship was held at Cootamundra Country Club on Saturday. This event uses a round–robin format with sets of 5 ends being played. After the initial rounds were completed in the morning, three teams – Judith and Terry Mulligan, Robyn and Tom Apps and Yvonne Murphy and Des Grimson – had qualified for the round–robin final. The final outcome was decided on a tie–break end with Judith and Terry Mulligan defeating Robyn and Tom Apps to become the district champions. Well done to both Judith and Terry.

This week saw the start of the Guy Pickering Charity Challenge on Tuesday night. The Thursday night group will commence on 22nd October.
