Club-Fours-Winners-2023-24

Club Fours Winners: David Quigley, George Somerville, Darryle Miller and Jonathon Watson.

Congratulations to the team of Jonathon Watson, Darryle Miller, George Somerville and David Quigley who won the final of the 2023-24 Club Fours Championship on Sunday afternoon.

The semi–finals were played on Saturday afternoon and the blustery wind made the conditions very difficult for all players.

In one match Jono Watson, Darryle Miller, George Somerville and David Quigley played Tom Preston, Geoff DeBritt, Bill Maloney and Cliff Traynor.

This was a close game throughout with more than half the ends resulting in just 1 shot. After 12 ends David’s team led 9–6 and it was 11–all after 15 ends.

A score of 4 shots on the 16th end saw David’s team leading 15–11 but after 19 ends they were just 1 shot in front at 16–15. The score was 17–15 going into the final end and 1 shot to Cliff’s team saw David’s team winning 17–16.

In the other game Glen Seward, John Cooper, Geoff Holt and Peter Watts were opposed to Steve Walsh, Michael Webb, Glen Benson and Denis Rosen.

There was an even start to this game with the score at 8–all after 5 ends and Denis’ team in front 14–12 after 9 ends. Peter’s team then won 7 of the next 8 ends to lead 24–15 and they went on to win 24–19.

The two winning teams played the final on Sunday afternoon in warm but calm conditions. David’s team won 7 of the first 9 ends to establish a 14–3 lead but with 2 scores of 4 over the next 3 ends Peter’s team reduced the margin to 15–11.

David’s team then won 6 consecutive ends to lead 29–11 and they won the game 29–15.

Following the game Bowls President Glen Benson presented the players with their winners and runners–up pendants.

On Saturday in addition to the two Championship games there were 14 other players involved.

The vouchers for the day went to the triples team of Chris Wright, Austin Crampton and Les Fanning who won their game by 7 shots.

Other winners were Allan Langford and Brian Madden (3 shots) and Brian Christie and Colin Stokell (1 shot).

During the week there were 18 players on Thursday afternoon. Three of the four games were closely contested but Harold Anderson and Austin Crampton won their game by 20 shots to claim the vouchers.

Allan Langford and Colin Stokell won their game by 2 shots, Glen Seward and Ian Schofield won their game by 15 shots and after an extra end Aldo Malvicino, Brian Gibson and Tony Ruhl had a winning margin of 1 shot.

Players are reminded that entries for the Club Singles close on Saturday 17th February.

Good luck to the club’s three Pennant sides who will be playing on Sunday morning. The Grade 3 side travels to Temora B&R, Grade 5 will play at Boorowa Ex–Services and the Grade 7 side will play Boorowa Ex–Services at Young.
