The final of the Guy Pickering Charity Challenge was held on Tuesday 9th April in quite cool conditions.

The Tuesday division winners Lachlan Street – Geoff Moore, Brian Allen and Mark Anderson were opposed to the Thursday winners FATBBOTS – Craig Watson, Col McIver and Jono Watson. The Lachlan Street team had a clear–cut 14-4 over the FATBBOTS.

Well done to both teams and also to all the members of the 26 teams that took part in the competition. The organisers – Ian Schofield, Cliff Traynor and Jono Watson – all contributed to ensuring a smooth running competition.

Play on Thursday afternoon took place in pleasant conditions with 16 players taking part. All four games were close contests with margins of 1, 2, 6 and 6.

After a count–back the winners for the afternoon were Max Penfold and Ian Schofield while the other players with the 6–shot margin were Les Fanning and Ron Winders.

Aldo Malvicino and Terry Mulligan won their game by 2 shots and Jim McQuade and Col Chapman had the 1–shot margin.

There were 22 players involved on Saturday afternoon. Greg Woods and Brian Madden won the vouchers when they won their game by 14 shots. A count back was needed because Les Fanning and Denis Rosen also won by 14 shots.

In the other three games each winning team had a margin of 6 shots. The teams were Allan Langford and Jono Watson, Geoff Holt and Glen Benson and Brian Christie, Max Penfold and Terry Ricketts.

In women’s bowls the semi–finals of the Club Singles Championship were played during the week.

On Wednesday Lisa Boyd played Sheila Traynor and this game saw the scores close right throughout. The final score was 25–21 in Sheila’s favour.

On Thursday Kate Cooper played Margaret Gailey with Kate winning 25–11. The final will be played on Wednesday 24th.

Over the weekend the club hosted the Region 10 Finals for Division 4 Pennants. On Saturday morning the composite Harden/Boorowa side played Wagga RSL. The Wagga side won both games with the overall score 58 shots to 23 shots.

In the afternoon the Wagga teams played against Lake Cargellico. Lake Cargellico defeated Wagga RSL in both games with the overall score 47–33.

On Sunday morning Lake Cargellico 46 defeated Harden/Boorowa 30. The Lake Cargellico side has qualified for the State Finals to be played at Bateau Bay in May.

The Bing Wallder Shield has been re–scheduled to be played on 20th and 21st April with the first games to start at 8.30 am on Saturday 20th.

The Zone 8 Open Pennant Finals will be played on 27th and 28th April in five grades. The club has two sides contesting the finals.

In Grade 3 there are only two clubs involved with Young to play Junee at Cootamundra Ex–Services Club on Sunday 28th starting at 12 pm.

Young is also playing in the Grade 7 finals at the North Albury club. This is a knock-out event with six clubs involved. Young to play Wagga Rules on the Saturday morning and if they are successful in this game they will play a composite Adelong/Tarcutta side on Saturday afternoon.
