The Club Pairs Championship was completed at the weekend with games on Saturday afternoon and both the morning and afternoon on Sunday.

Congratulations go to Damien Miller and David Quigley who won the event for the sixth consecutive year. In the final they defeated Joe Bargwanna and Cliff Traynor 22–15.

The second round games were played on Saturday afternoon. Damien Miller and David Quigley led 10–1 against Jonathon Watson and Peter Watts after the first 7 ends of their game but after 14 ends their lead was just 2 shots at 12–10. Damien and David won 6 of the final 7 ends to win 22–13.

Michael Webb and Les Fanning led 18–16 against Darryle Miller and Scott Douglas after 14 ends had been completed and won 5 of the final 7 ends to win 24–18.

An extra end was needed in the game between Geoff Holt and George Somerville and Joe Bargwanna and Cliff Traynor. Geoff and George held an early lead of 7–0 but after 16 ends it was 13–all. After the standard 21 ends the score was 18–all and Joe and Cliff scored 1 shot on the extra end to win 19–18.

Chris Wright and Tony Ruhl led 11–5 after 9 ends of their game against Harold Anderson and Glen Benson and the score was 13–all after 15 ends. Harold and Glen did best on the remaining ends to win 22–15.

Damien Miller and David Quigley scored a convincing 26–8 win over Harold Anderson and Glen Benson in one semi–final on Sunday morning.

In the other semi–final Joe Bargwanna and Cliff Traynor were opposed to Michael Webb and Les Fanning. After 11 ends the score was 8–all. Joe and Cliff won 6 of the next 7 ends to lead 19–9 and despite a late surge by Michael and Les they won 19–17.

The final was a close contest with the lead changing 4 times. Damien and David led 7–1 after 4 ends but a score of 4 shots on the 11th end saw Joe and Cliff leading 10–9. Two ends later Damien and David led 12–11 and after a further 2 ends Joe and Cliff were in front 14–12.

Damien and David regained the lead with 4 shots on the 16th end and won 4 of the final 5 ends for a winning score of 22–15.

In addition to the championship games on Saturday there were 8 other players on the green.

Glen Seward and Tom Preston won their game by 3 shots and Max Penfold and Garry Trudgett had a winning margin of 11 shots.

There were 20 players involved on Thursday afternoon in 5 games of pairs.

A heavy shower partway through the games saw players leave the green only to return once the shower passed. The second shower and the threat of further disruption saw play abandoned with all games having completed 9, 10 or 11 ends.

This weekend will see play in the sectional games of the Zone 8 Fours Championships.

Play in the State division will be held at Young on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning and afternoon.

Play in the Senior and Open Reserve divisions will be held at Temora at the same times.
