Play for the past week started on Thursday afternoon with twenty players involved. Michael Webb and Ian Gailey won the vouchers with a margin of 16 shots. The other four games were close contests, with Albert Carter and Terry Holmes winning their game by 2 shots as did Alan Gall and John Cooper. There were also two winning teams with a margin of 6 shots – Mick Manning and Ian Schofield and Milan Brankovic and Tony Ruhl.
Saturday afternoon’s Jackpot play saw a field of eighteen players. The vouchers sponsored by Patterson Brothers Funerals went to Scott Douglas and John Cooper who won their game by 13 shots. Other winning teams were Coopy Baker and Ted Loader (7 shots), Brian Christie, Alan Gall and Colin Stokell (11 shots) and Brian March and Cliff Traynor (12 shots).
There were just 8 players for Sunday morning and the best score was 17 points for Joe Hennock and Rob Taylor.
The Bowling Club Fishing Club conducted their Annual Christmas Bowls Afternoon on Sunday with thirty players on the green. Male and female bowlers from all different competitions conducted by the Club took part. Only three of the ten teams of triples were able to win both their games. The best performed team for the afternoon consisted of Kevin Watson, Judy Watson and Ian Schofield. The runners–up were Michel Alavoine, Max Penfold and Tom Preston. After the presentations were made, the players and several extra members moved to the Scales and Ales facility for a very nice dinner.
Thanks go to the members of the Fishing Club for their organisation of this event. On Friday night, Club Treasurer Cliff Traynor presented Mary Murray (Treasurer of Young’s branch of St Vincent De Paul) with a cheque for $250 on behalf of the winners of the recently completed Guy Pickering Charity Challenge competition. Members are advised that there are notices on display concerning the Club’s trading hours over the Christmas–New Year period and also a program of bowls events for the period from 22nd December to Australia Day.
Once again, it was good to see so many groups making use of the Club’s facilities for end of year functions during the past week.
