Playing Ditch Weight

2020 Club Pairs winners Damien Miller and David Quigley.

Players from the Young Bowling Club will be representing the South Western District in the Zone 8 Champion of Club Champions Singles and Pairs following games played over the weekend. Conditions on Saturday were not good due to light rain, but the two scheduled Championship games were completed.

On Saturday, Damien Miller and David Quigley (winners of the Club Pairs at Young) played Don and Bill Manwaring (winners of the Club Pairs at Cootamundra Country Club). Damien and David proved far too consistent for Don and Bill and won the game 22–4.

On Sunday afternoon, Damien as the Club Singles Champion played Kevin Breasley from Cootamundra Country Club. Damien opened up a lead of 12–4 during the first 8 ends and continued to dominate the scoring with some excellent play. He went on to win 31–12.

In a game of Club Fours played on Saturday, John Cooper, Ian Schofield, David Ward (substitute) and Peter Watts completely dominated the scoring against Harold Anderson, Vic Brown, George Somerville and Graeme Edgerton and recorded a win by 27 shots to 9.

Fourteen players were involved in Saturday’s Jackpot Bowls, but quite wisely they gave in to the rain and their games were not completed.

Thursday afternoon saw 18 players on the green. The winning teams were Garry Fish, Brian March and John Cooper (13 shots), Brian Christie and Les Fanning (6 shots), Albert Carter and Tony Ruhl (5 shots) and Ned Kelly and Bob Ruhl (3 shots).

The next session of the Guy Pickering Charity Challenge started on Tuesday night with 14 teams of triples taking part. A count back was needed to decide the winners with YTB (16 points) the winners over How’s That (16 points). These teams will be on the greens again on Tuesday night and the Thursday night division will start this week.

Players are reminded of the Pairs tournaments to be held on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th October. Details are on the noticeboard.

At this time of the year, there are usually local social groups and businesses booking for end-of-year bowls afternoons or evenings at the Club. The Club is currently working through the changing health restrictions to determine the procedures that need to be applied to each individual booking.
