Our club hosted the Zone 8 Triples Championship Finals over the weekend. This involved three divisions with three qualifying teams in each division playing in a round–robin format.

After the results of the first two rounds the third round games became finals with the winners for each division progressing to the state finals at Dubbo in March 2024.

Saturday afternoon’s game in the State division saw the Narrandera team of Wes Kiley, Dave Hoffman and Shaun Gehringer defeat Glen Fahey, Bill Bishop and George Jackson from Wagga Rules 23–19.

On Sunday morning Matt McComber, Heath Walker and Brett White from Wagga RSL defeated the Wagga Rules team 24-20. The final game in this division saw the Narrandera team win the last five ends against Wagga RSL to take out the title 24-17.

Wayne Foote, Bevan Krause and Bruce Lack (Temora B&R) won Saturday’s Senior division game against Graeme McComber, Richard Durnan and David Ivanoff (Narrandera) 25–23.

The Narrandera team also lost by 2 shots on Sunday morning 20-18 against John Hetherington, David Streher and Brett Pieper from Wagga Rules.

Bruce Lack’s team dominated the final game with a 27–5 win over Wagga Rules to qualify for the State Championships.

The three teams involved in the Open Reserve division were from Barmedman (Trevor Gadd, Mick Owers and Dennis Melmoth), Wagga Rules (Marcus Pim, Sue Pim and Andrew Carey) and Narrandera (Duncan Spencer, Matt Grant and Phil Miller).

On Saturday afternoon the Wagga Rules team came from behind over the final ends to defeat Barmedman 25–23.

On Sunday morning the Narrandera team led from the outset and defeated Barmedman 21-16.

With the score at 13–12 after 16 ends of the final game the result was in the balance but some excellent bowls from the Wagga Rules team saw them take out the game 25–13.

Congratulations to the three winning teams and good luck in the state finals.

Thanks to Damien and Mitch for the quality of the green and to the umpires who assisted over the weekend. Thanks also to the catering staff and bar staff whose work was complimented by the visiting players.
