Play for the week started on Wednesday night when more than 50 players were involved in the Guy Pickering Charity Challenge.

Howzat were the winners for the night with a score of 16 points. On Thursday night there were 34 players on the green.

The vouchers for the night went to the Mates 1 team.

There were 16 players involved on Thursday afternoon and they all sought shelter as some very heavy rain swept through about halfway through the game. Play resumed after the rain passed through.

The vouchers for the day went to Andrew Hutchison and Cliff Traynor who won their game by 11 shots.

Harold Anderson and Vic Brown won their game by 2 shots as did Albert Carter and Joe Bargwanna with Bob Ruhl and Les Fanning having a margin of 8 shots.

Both of the Championship games set down for Saturday afternoon were postponed. Some of the players involved were isolating due to COVID–19 restrictions.

There were just 14 players for Saturday’s Jackpot games.

Darryle Miller and Brian Christie had the highest margin for the afternoon when they won their game by 13 shots.

Scott Douglas, Joe Read and Tony Ruhl won their game by 10 shots and the other winners were Mark Brownlie and Vic Brown with a margin of 9 shots. Sunday afternoon saw the start of some inter–club bowls games organised by the South Western District.

There were eight sides involved in a Pennant style format – with each side consisting of three teams of four players. All reports were that the players enjoyed renewing their contacts with players from other clubs.

Young fielded two sides and both played against teams from Boorowa Ex–Services Club.

At Young the Boorowa side won two games and had a 65–59 overall margin while at Boorowa the Young side won two games but finished 64–65 overall.

The Boorowa Recreation Club hosted a side from Cootamundra Ex–Services Club and won two of the three games to have an overall score of 62–50. Harden played at home against Cootamundra Ex–Services and both clubs won a game with one game resulting in a draw. The overall score was 60–59 in Harden’s favour.

Further games in this event will be played over the next few weeks. Players should check the notice board for the revised dates for the Club Pairs Championship with entries closing on Thursday 21st April.

All bowlers are reminded that the renovations being carried out at the club will involve the club being closed from Sunday 27th March for a period of two or three weeks.

Players who store their bowls at the club and need them during this time should make sure they collect them by Saturday 26th March.

The South Western District Bowling Association lost one of its best-known members with the passing of Arthur Ward on Saturday 19th March at the age of 95 years.

Arthur was the District President in 1989-90 and 1990-91 and served as a Vice–President for several years.

In recognition of his contributions he was made a Life Member of the District in November 2018.

Arthur was still an active bowler and a teller of jokes well past his 90th birthday.

On behalf of the club members our sympathies are extended to Arthur’s family on his passing.
