The first round games of the Club Triples Championship were completed on Saturday afternoon in very cold conditions. While there was no actual rain during the games the misty conditions were such that the green was wet for several ends.

All three games saw clear–cut results. Steve Walsh, Denis Rosen and Glen Benson dominated the scoring in their game against Brian Christie, Bill Maloney and Cliff Traynor particularly in the second half of the game. The final result was a 28-13 win to Glen’s team.

The first half of the game that saw Greg Woods, Ian Schofield and Joe Bargwanna opposed to Joe Read, John Cooper and Harold Anderson was very even with the score being 9–all after 11 ends. From that point Joe’s team did best and went on to win the game 21–11.

There was a similar pattern in the game between Albert Carter, Michael Webb and Les Fanning and Scott Douglas, Brian McNair and Tom Preston. Les’s team were in front 13-10 after 12 ends and they went on to win 30-14.

There was a good attendance on Thursday afternoon with 22 players taking part in very pleasant conditions. Most of the games were evenly contested with four of the five margins being 5 shots or less. Chris Wright and John Cooper were the winners of the vouchers when they won their game by 11 shots.

Albert Carter and Colin Chapman won their game by 5 shots, Steven Hankins and Alan Gall had a 3 shot winning margin while Terry Cannon, Barry Watson and Tom Preston won by 2 shots and Aldo Malvicino and Denis Rosen had a 1 shot margin.

Players whose Pennant grading is 5, 6 or 7 or do not have a Pennant grade, are advised to check the details on the notice board concerning the President’s Cup. These details are on a gold–coloured sheet.

Entry details for the Zone 8 Championships in Triples, Fours and Singles are on the original notice board. The first to close is the Zone Triples and this closes on Thursday 31st August.

Well done to Ian Schofield and Chris Wright on their work in updating the bowls office area last week.
