Once again, the vagaries of the weather have had an effect on bowls played during the week. The conditions on Thursday were good and 24 players took part but the early morning dust and wind on Saturday led to no play taking place.
On Thursday, all except one margin was less than 9 shots and the exception saw the vouchers for the day go to Brian Christie and Tom Preston with a 17 shot margin.
On Sunday afternoon, the final of the Minor Singles was played between Michael Webb and Peter Berry. As expected, this was a very close contest. There was never a difference in scores of more than 3 shots for the entire game and the scores were level on 5 occasions.
Towards the end of the game the scores were level at 24–all and again at 29–all. On the final end, Peter scored two shots to take out the match 31–29. Congratulations to both players on a fine effort.
The BowlsNSW State Championships started on Friday at Ettalong with the first games in the State Triples, Senior Triples and President’s Reserve Triples. Damien Miller, Kade McKenzie and Dave Quigley were the Zone 8 representatives in the State Triples. They won only one of their three sectional games and did not progress to the semi–finals.
In the Seniors division, Zone 8 was represented by Pedro Rudd’s team from Wagga Rules and they went on to win that competition with a 24–22 win in the final.
Thanks to those players who attended the President’s Day at Harden on Sunday either as members of the Club’s team or as members of the District team.
