The green was running a treat for all bowls in the past week. Unfortunately the strong wind made conditions tricky but provided an excuse for those of us that were off course.

The final of the 2021 Club Triples was played on Saturday with Damien Miller, Ged Hardman and David Quigley opposed to John Cooper, Geoff Holt and Peter Watts. After 7 ends the scores were level at 6-all and after 11 ends they were level again at 9–all. The next 6 ends saw David’s team move to a lead of 18–10 and this included a reasonably rare non–scoring end when after all the bowls had been delivered both teams had a bowl touching the jack. The scoring on the final few ends was fairly even with David’s team winning the event 25-18.

Congratulations to the winners on their consistent play throughout the championship and also to the runners–up on some very good play in this game and their preceding games.

In addition to the final, another 24 players were on the green playing Jackpot Bowls.

The vouchers for the afternoon went to Brian March and George Somerville who won their game by 16 shots.

Other winning teams and their margins were Ted Loader and Denis Rosen (11), Alan Gall and Harold Anderson (5), Andrew Hutchison and Brian Gibson (3), Greg Woods and Ian Schofield (2) and John Sheather and Colin Stokell (1).

Thursday afternoon saw 22 players taking part in very windy conditions. Fred Thompson and Les Fanning claimed the vouchers when they won their game by 22 shots.

Aldo Malvicino and Col Chapman had a winning margin of 17 shots and Brian Gibson and Joe Bargwanna won their game by 10 shots.

The triples team of Brian Christie, Cary Peters and Tony Ruhl had a margin of 13 shots and in the only game where the scores were close Albert Carter and George Somerville had a margin of 4 shots.

There were 20 players involved in the Sunday Funday. Play consisted of two games of three bowl pairs and the players in each team swapped positions for the second game.

Jono and Craig Watson were the overall winners for the afternoon. Judith and Terry Mulligan were in second place and Sheila and Cliff Traynor came third.

The first games in the Mixed Pairs Championship are set down to be played on Saturday afternoon. Sunday afternoon will see the first games played in the Club Fours Championship.

Both of these events are for the 2021 Championships.

The next series of the Guy Pickering Charity Challenge will commence on Wednesday 9th February. There will also be games on Thursday 10th February.

Teams should register by calling the Bowling Club or the Services Club or by contacting Ian Schofield or Cliff Traynor.
