The first of the club’s three Cherry Festival tournaments started on Wednesday.
This was the Women’s Triples that involved three games on Wednesday and two games on Thursday. There were 22 teams participating in this event.
After the completion of the five games the winners were Milka Starkovsky, Jenny Hogan and Karen James from Tomakin who won all five games and had a winning margin of 75 shots.
The runners–up were Rhona Went, Brenda Davies and Liz Byrnes from Parkes Sports who also won their five games and had a winning margin of 56 shots.
Cheryl Mommson, Linda Copley and Audrey Pritchard from Queanbeyan finished in third place with four wins and a draw and a margin of 28 shots.
Saturday and Sunday saw 28 teams playing in the Mixed Pairs tournament. This is the maximum number of teams that can be accommodated on the two greens.
Fortunately, the two rain periods experienced on Saturday did not stop the event being completed. There was a delay in starting the third game on Saturday but only for about 30 minutes and the heavy rain on Saturday night did not disrupt the normal schedule on Sunday. The prize-winners for the event all won five of their six games.
The overall winners were Fiona Hartwig and Tony Parkes from West Wyalong whose winning margin was 54 shots and they finished just in front of Robyn and Neville Corby from Crookwell/Taralga whose margin was 52 shots. Stella and Bill Robertson from Temora finished in third place with a margin of 36 shots.
On Thursday night four teams – Pretty in Pink, Hilltop Heroes, DCA and The Hunting Ground finished with 14 points in the Guy Pickering Charity Challenge. After a count-back the Hilltop Heroes were the winners for the night.
The Friday Night Pairs games were played in very cold and windy conditions. In Division A the Harden team of Jake Fisher and Matt Peisley scored a convincing 17–7 win over Darryle and Damien Miller.
In Section 1 of Division B Glen Seward and Glen Benson took an early lead in their game and continued their good form to win 23–9. The other game in Section 1 was very one–sided with Albert Carter and Joe Read winning 21–8.
The games in Section 2 were much closer with Jill and Denis Rosen winning their game 16–11 and Joe Bargwanna and Cliff Traynor scoring a lucky 1 shot on the final end of their game to win 16–14.
A Calcutta for the Men’s Triples was held on Monday night. Thanks to Joe Bargwanna and the two representatives from Miller, Whitty and Lennon – Mark Jolliffe and Luke Corcoran – for their great work with the auction on the night. Thanks also to Glen Benson for his efforts in the sale of tickets prior to the auction.
Play in this event is scheduled for Tuesday 25th, Wednesday 26th and the morning of Thursday 27th.
