BPL-Cup-Finalists

BPL Cup National Finalists – Jonathon Watson, Damien Miller and David Quigley.

Special congratulations to Jonathon Watson, Damien Miller and David Quigley on qualifying for the National Finals of the Australia wide BPL Cup competition for the second year in a row.

The finals will be played at Club Pine Rivers in Queensland from 12th to 16th November.

Two teams from New South Wales will play in the finals with a team from the Ettalong Memorial Club being the other qualifiers.

After winning their section in the Preliminary Rounds played at Young in June, Jono, Damien and David then won their section in the Regional Finals at Temora on 3rd September.

On Sunday at Mt Lewis they won their three sectional games against South Tamworth, Moruya and Nelson Bay and then defeated Belmont in a play–off of section winners.

A great achievement for the same team to qualify for the National Finals for two consecutive years.

Locally during the week there were 20 players on the green on Thursday afternoon and most were wishing they had brought some warmer clothing as the clouds and chilly breeze dropped the temperature considerably.

Four of the five games had small margins with Milan Brankovic and Cliff Traynor winning their game by 2 shots, Brian Christie and Colin Chapman winning by 3 shots as did Andrew Hutchison and Bob Ruhl, and Alan Langford and Ian Schofield having a 4 shot margin. In contrast Alan Gall and Denis Rosen claimed the vouchers with a winning margin of 21 shots.

Saturday afternoon saw twenty players involved in very pleasant conditions.

The vouchers for the afternoon went to Alan Langford and Steve Walsh who won their game by 13 shots. Just behind them were Harold Anderson and Geoff Holt with a winning margin of 12 shots.

There were very close finishes in the other three games with Michael Webb and Glen Benson winning 22–21, Glen Seward and Tony Ruhl winning 17–15 and Scott Douglas and Cliff Traynor winning 15–13.

Players are reminded that entries for the Zone Fours close on Thursday 28th September and entries for the Club Pairs close on Friday 29th September.

Entries for the Zone 8 Singles close on Thursday 5th October.

A Greenkeepers Bowls Afternoon will be held on Sunday 1st October.

This is an Open Pairs event and entries can be made as a team or as an individual. Entries close on Saturday 30th September.

Sunday 8th October will see the return of Sunday Funday bowls for teams of Open Nominated Pairs. Play will start at 1.00 pm and consist of two games.

The Annual General Meeting of the Men’s Bowling Club will be held at 12.00 pm on Saturday 7th October. Nominations forms and details of the meeting are on the notice board.
