A very busy week and weekend at the Young Bowling Club.

Charity bowls continued during the week on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Winners on Tuesday night, ‘Friday’s’ defeated ‘Incredible Bowls’ 16 shots to 5. The Guy Percival Charity bowls on Thursday night, the rugby league old boys team of Tigers registered their first win for the year. Thursday’s Jackpot bowls, 24 players competed. The winning team with a margin of 20 shots, Tom Preston and Geoff Connelly. One game in the Club Singles Championships was played with Colin Stokell defeating Ian Gailey by 31 shots to 21.

The District Triples Championships were played at the Young Bowling Club on Saturday February 23rd. Open Triples winners Tom Shapcott, Kade McKenzie and Dave Quigley won through to the finals and will meet the team of Ted Loader and Bill and James Maloney to decide the winners. Seniors Triples winners were the team of Geoff Holt, Peter Watts and Graeme Edgerton who defeated Colin Parker, John Cooper and Cliff Traynor 24 shots to 16.

President’s Reserve Triples

Mark Armstrong, Jason Jones and Terry Smith defeated John O’Loughlin, Tony Ward and Charlie Willis 26 to 16, both teams from Cootamundra. The pre-Pennant season trial match against the Cowra Bowling Club proved a great day of bowls. 72 bowlers from both Clubs were present playing in Grade 3, Grades 5 and 6 and 7. Young Club were winners on the day winning two Grades to one. Young had a convincing win in Grade 3, lost in Grade 5 and won the Grade 6 + 7. Grade 3 Young 72 shots, Cowra 48. Grade 5 Cowra 65 shots, Young 61. Grade 6/7 Young 55 shots, Cowra 50.

One game of Singles was played on Saturday afternoon with Peter Slater defeating Brian Christie.

The 1st round of the District Pennant season commences next Sunday with the Young Club competing in Grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 and also playing with the Bribbaree Club in Grade 7. All players please check the board to see where your team is playing next Sunday.

The Club Singles continue next Saturday with matches advise on the notice board.

Jackpot bowls on Thursday and Saturday, names in by 12.30pm, play commencing at 1pm.
