Despite the rain on Friday night the second round games in the Club Pairs Championship were completed on Saturday afternoon.

In one game David Ward (substitute) and David Quigley played Chris Wright and Tom Preston. After 7 ends the score was 6-all but from that point on David and David had far the best of the game to win 38–12.

Geoff Holt and Graeme Edgerton were opposed to Colin Chapman (substitute) and Brian March. After 4 ends Geoff and Graeme led 8–0 and over the remaining 17 ends both teams scored 11 shots to give Geoff and Graeme a win by 19–11.

Harold Anderson and Ian Schofield won the first 6 ends of their game against Stuart Freudenstein and Albert Carter to lead 13–0. They continued to dominate the scoring and won the game 33–8.

The fourth game saw Jono Watson and Peter Watts against Steve Walsh and Colin Stokell. Jono and Peter did well early to lead 8–1 but after 12 ends Steve and Colin were in front 13–11.

Jono and Peter won the next 3 ends to lead 15–13 before Steve and Colin scored 7 shots on the next 2 ends to lead 20–15.

Jono and Peter then won 2 of the next 3 ends to lead 22–21 with one end to play. A score of 2 shots on the final end gave Steve and Colin a win 23–22.

The semi-finals of this event are scheduled to be played on Saturday.

Saturday also saw 12 players involved in three games of social play.

Milan Brankovic and Darryle Miller had a very good game winning 35–11. The other two games saw Tony Ruhl and Cliff Traynor winning 25–11 and Bob Ruhl and Mark Anderson winning 26–14.

The jackpot margin for the afternoon was 1 shot so that Steve and Colin were the winners.

The foggy and cold weather on Thursday morning kept numbers down for the afternoon.

There were two close games completed with Albert Carter and Les Fanning winning their game by 4 shots and Milan Brankovic, Chris Wright and Harold Anderson having a 1 shot margin in their game.

All players are advised to check the notice board for information on the Men’s Single Gender Pennants competition.

Details concerning the Club Singles Championship are also on display with entries closing on 23rd July.

Also, there is information on the notice board concerning two rounds of the BPL Cup to be held on Sunday 10th July and Saturday 30th July.

Players interested in nominating for positions on Zone 8 committees are reminded that the closing date for nominations to be forwarded to Zone 8 is Monday 4th July.

Members are reminded that membership renewals are now due. Payments need to be made at the Young Services Club.
