Club Triples Winners: Glen Benson, Denis Rosen and Steve Walsh.

There were very good conditions for the final of the Club Triples Championship on Saturday afternoon and it was a classic final.

The two teams involved were Steve Walsh, Denis Rosen and Glen Benson and Glen Seward, Geoff Holt and Peter Watts.

The scores were level on 5 occasions during the game.

After 10 ends it was 9–all and with Glen’s team scoring 7 shots on the next 2 ends they led 16–9.

Peter’s team then won 7 consecutive ends to lead 19–16 but after a further 2 ends its was 20–all.

After 24 ends Glen’s team was in front 25–22 and on the final regulation end Peter’s team scored 3 shots so that the score was 25–all after 25 ends.

On the extra end Glen’s team scored 4 shots to win the Championship. Congratulations to both teams on such a hard–fought final.

There were another 16 players on the green on Saturday afternoon. The vouchers for the day went to Greg Woods and Jono Watson who won their game by the big margin of 22 shots.

In the other three games the winning combinations and their margin were Harold Anderson and Michael Webb (6 shots), Tom Preston and Col Chapman (5 shots) and Albert Carter and Darryle Miller (3 shots).

On Sunday Jono Watson, Damien Miller and David Quigley contested the Regional Finals of the BPL Cup. There were six teams involved with teams from Ariah Park, Temora, Narrandera and Young.

Play was in two sections of three teams and the Young combination won both their games and by winning their section they have qualified for the State Finals to be played at Mt Lewis on Sunday 24th September.

The other team to qualify for the State Finals was the Narrandera team skipped by David Ivanoff.

Play on Thursday afternoon saw 18 players taking part.

Aldo Malvicino and Les Fanning won their game by 3 shots as did Brian Gibson and Harold Anderson.

Brian Christie and Brian McNair won their game by 2 shots and the vouchers for the afternoon went to Andrew Hutchison, Chris Wright and Michael Webb with a margin of 6 shots.

This weekend will see play in the sectional games for the Zone 8 Triples. The overall number of entries for this Championship are well down from last year in both the State and Senior Divisions.

Games in the Men’s State Division and Open Reserve Division will be played at Temora B&R Club.

On Saturday afternoon Jono Watson, Damien Miller and David Quigley will play a team from Cootamundra Ex–Services in the State Division and Michael Webb, Les Fanning and Glen Benson will play a team from West Wyalong in the Open Reserve Division. Further games in both divisions will be played on Sunday morning and afternoon.

The Men’s Senior Division will be played at Young with a team from Temora playing a team from Cootamundra Ex–Services on Sunday morning and the winners playing Joe Bargwanna, Russell Boyd and Cliff Traynor in the afternoon.

The closing dates for the Zone 8 Championships in Fours and Singles have been extended and the new dates are shown on the entry forms.
