Bowls

There has been some bowls played at Young since Hilltops came out of lockdown on Friday 1st October.

The uncertain weather deterred a number of people on Saturday and there were just 12 starters.

Despite a couple of interruptions due to rain the players enjoyed the fact that they were able to participate again and most were ready to backup for a game on Monday.

The results of the games were that Milan Brankovic, Albert Carter and Ian Schofield won their game by 8 shots and Elsie Hines, Brian Christie and Denis Rosen won their game by 10 shots.

The weather conditions were much better on Monday afternoon and there were 20 players involved. Five games of pairs were played.

The winning teams for the afternoon and their margins were Milan Brankovic and Denis Rosen (9 shots), Ann Gardner and Steve Walsh (7 shots), Colin Chapman and Tony Ruhl (1 shots), Max Penfold and John Cooper (5 shots) and Judy Watson and Cliff Traynor (19 shots).

Thanks to Damien for ensuring that the greens were playing so well after the recent heavy rains.

Club members were saddened to hear of the passing of Jock Rogerson on Tuesday 5th October after a short illness.

Jock was elected a Life Member of the club in 2015 in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the club over many years.

He served the club as a Board member, Club Chairman, Bowls Secretary, Bowls President and was also District Umpires Coordinator.

In addition, Jock gave countless hours of voluntary work to the club, both inside the clubhouse and on the surrounds.

He moved to Albion Park in 2020 to be closer to the many members of his extended family who live in that area.

Our sympathies are extended to his family in this sad time.
