The weekend saw six games of the Club Triples completed and one game of Minor Singles. Conditions were rarely pleasant, but some excellent bowls were played.

On Saturday, Mick Manning, Tom Preston and Denis Rosen took an early 15–5 lead against Joe Hennock, Mark Brownlie and Scott Douglas and went on to win 30–15.

There was a similar pattern in the game in which Damien Miller, Brian Madden and Dave Quigley played James Freudenstein, Geoff Holt and Graeme Edgerton with Dave’s team leading 17–3 after 9 ends and going on to win 31–17.

There was an even start in the game between Joe Bargwanna, Geoff DeBritt and David Ward and Peter Slater, Ged Hardman and Russell Boyd. Russell’s team led 6-5 after 6 ends and David’s team was leading 13–12 after 14 ends. After 20 ends, the score was 19–all and David’s team won the final 3 ends to win 27–21.

In the fourth game, Terry Holmes, Ian Gailey and Ian Schofield played Colin Powell, Les Fanning and Mark Anderson. After 13 ends, the score was 11–all and after 21 ends Mark’s team led 19–18. The final score was 22–20 in Mark’s favour.

The semi–finals on Sunday afternoon saw Dave Quigley’s team (with Albert Carter playing as a substitute) too strong for Denis Rosen’s team to win 36–12 and Mark Anderson’s team dominate the middle part of the game against David Ward’s team to win 27–18.

On Saturday in the Minor Singles, Michel Alavoine played Brad Douglas and there was an even start to the game and the scores were level at 13–all. From that point, Brad played the best and won the game 31–14.

Also on Saturday were two games of Jackpot Bowls. The winning teams were Albert Carter and Brian March with an 8 shot margin and Darryle Miller and Harold Anderson with a huge 29 shot win. Naturally, the Patterson Bros Funerals sponsored vouchers went to Darryle and Harold.

There was another good attendance on Sunday morning with 16 players taking part. Peter Berry and Andrew Hutchison took out the vouchers with a score of 17 points.

During the week there were very good conditions on Thursday and 24 players took part. The margins for the games were 1, 5, 9, 11, 17 and 21. The vouchers for the 21 shot margin went to Alan Cooke and Stewart Taylor.

There will be some games in the Minor Singles scheduled for Saturday afternoon but the forecast is for very cold conditions and a final decision will be made on Saturday morning.

The scheduled games are: Andrew Hutchison v Mark Brownlie, Stephen Walsh v Brad Douglas, Luke Smithers v Brian Christie and Milan Brankovic v Scott Douglas.

Players are reminded that entries for the Open Three Bowl Pairs tournament to be played on Friday 30th August close on Friday 23rd August. All players are encouraged to support this event.
