Redbacks got off to a flying start in their clash against Penguins, with Luke Cosgrove capitalising on an early penalty corner in the first quarter.
Although goalkeeper Chris Hosken managed to save the initial shot, Cosgrove was quick to pounce on the rebound and fire it home.
The match was played at a frantic pace, with Penguins pressing hard for an equaliser.
However, the Redbacks’ defence held firm, and it wasn’t until early in the third quarter that the scoreboard moved again—once more in favour of the Redbacks.
Cosgrove netted his second penalty corner goal, and just minutes later Catherine Gordon extended the lead with a composed finish to make it 3–0.
Refusing to give up, Penguins continued to push forward and were eventually rewarded when Janice Dunk swept in a loose ball that rebounded off the Redbacks’ goalkeeper, keeping the contest alive at 3–1.
A penalty stroke awarded to the Redbacks early in the final quarter presented a chance to seal the win, but Chris Hosken again came to Penguins’ rescue with a sharp save, keeping the margin unchanged.
For Penguins, Jose Webber had a standout game in the midfield, providing valuable distribution to the forwards.
Josh Dunk was a constant threat up front, while Donna Burns stood tall in defence.
For the Redbacks, Luke Cosgrove was the cornerstone of their performance, with Catherine Gordon adding spark in attack and Sarah Wills a dependable presence in defence.
Vikings Stay Top with Solid Win Over DTSIn the late game, Vikings cemented their place at the top of the ladder with a clinical 2–0 win over DTS.
Despite dominating possession and earning numerous penalty corners, they struggled to convert early opportunities thanks to strong defensive work by Greg Bannister at fullback and a series of fine saves from Oscar Heffernan in goal.
The deadlock was broken in the third quarter when Tracy Lamb burst into the circle and slotted home the opening goal.
With pressure mounting, Vikings finally doubled their lead through Andrew Pratt, who took full advantage of sustained possession to breach the DTS defence and put the result beyond doubt.
Paul Robertson was influential across the park for the Vikings, while Tracy Lamb continued to trouble the defence.
Faith Freeman was active on the wing and Brendan Sheppard put in another tireless shift.
For DTS, alongside the efforts of Bannister and Heffernan, David Wark and Fiona Douglas also impressed with solid performances.
