Students who started university this year can still apply for a scholarship worth up to $18,000, says Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack.

Mr McCormack said Round 5 of the Australian Government’s Rural and Regional Enterprise Scholarship (RRES) program had scholarships available for eligible students who started study in 2021.

Some students may have not given a lot of thought to what assistance was available or may have self assessed and thought they were not eligible for a scholarship.

“Whatever reason for not applying for a scholarship, I urge students who have not applied yet to have another look at this fantastic opportunity for students from regional and remote communities,” Mr McCormack said.

Round 5 is still open to students who are undertaking courses from Certificate IV to PhD level and who started their study in 2021. The Federal Government has managed the program since 2017 and it has delivered more than 3,000 scholarships to help students from regional and remote communities access a tertiary education.

“In some cases, a scholarship has been the difference between being able to go to university and not going,” Mr McCormack said. “Your postcode should not determine your level of education.”
