Spring Has Arrived

Recently I have realised that I rarely stop to take the time to reflect on the past season.

As gardeners, no matter whether you’re a hobby gardener or a professional gardener we tend to focus on what is happening now in the garden and what tasks we have to do now for the upcoming season. Rarely do I take time to properly reflect on the past season in the garden. This is something I am going to try and make more time to do.

Reflecting on this past winter we have had a lot of rain, it may not have been the wettest year ever but it has been wet! Now I will never complain about rain but gosh it has been gloomy and grey too. The number of sunny blue sky days has been limited. I think this increase in soil moisture and lack of sunlight has negatively affected some plants while others have thrived. One species I think that is thriving and all seem to be flowering longer are the Narcissus (the Jonquils and Daffodils). This may also be because I am noticing their bright spots of colour more often on these overcast days. This winter I have really appreciated their cheerful clusters of blooms popping up amongst the foliage of shrubs and in the borders of our garden and our clients’ gardens. I adore their sweet intoxicating fragrance wafting around our noses whilst we weed. I am now working out which new varieties we should plant out in our garden next autumn.

I am very excited to announce that we have published two new Garden Design eBooks to add to our eBook collection. These are now available on my website. My eBooks are focused on making all the elements of gardening and garden design accessible to the home gardener. For more information go to my website.
