Steph Cooke Cuts The Ribbon

A new era in vocational education and training in Young has dawned after Nationals candidate for Cootamundra Steph Cooke helped officially open Stage Two of the NSW Government’s $10 million redevelopment of TAFE NSW Young yesterday.

With the minister responsible for TAFE, Adam Marshall, by her side, Ms Cooke declared the state-of-the-art new facility open and said it would cement TAFE NSW as the leading vocational education and training provider in the region for decades to come.

Ms Cooke said the TAFE campus upgrade was another tangible example of what the Nationals could achieve in government.

“The NSW Nationals fought hard to secure this $10 million upgrade to our TAFE campus in Young – In government we make commitments and deliver on them,” Ms Cooke said.

“These wonderful, state-of-the-art new facilities show what we can achieve with strong local representation and a true voice for our region. They will provide the community of Young and the wider region with a space for training for the jobs of today and careers of tomorrow.

“Thanks to the NSW Nationals Young will be a critical education hub for the areas of health and aged care, early childhood education and care, hairdressing and beauty therapy, business management and trade areas including electrotechnology.”

Mr Marshall said the revamped campus would help future-proof the region by tailoring training to the rapidly changing jobs market.

“The upgraded TAFE NSW facilities here in Young will benefit not only the local community, but the wider region, helping more people get the skills they need to get tomorrow’s jobs,” Mr Marshall said.

Stage Two of the redevelopment comprises of a refurbishment of the electrotechnology trade area, new common learning areas designed to support the increased use of technology and a new, modern service area.

“These brand new facilities, coupled with the already operational upgrades from Stage One of the redevelopment mean TAFE NSW will remain the premier educational institution in Young and across the region for years to come,” Mr Marshall said.

The redeveloped Young Campus now provides state of the art training facilities in key educational areas such as health and aged care, early childhood education, beauty therapy, electrotechnology and business management.

The facilities include a simulated hospital for health and aged care, an early childhood education centre with indoor and outdoor learning spaces, a state-of-the-art hairdressing and beauty therapy salon and electrotechnology trade facilities.
