Young students from Murrumburrah Public School and Trinity Catholic Primary School will learn to create music from found objects culminating in them performing for the community on Friday, March 18.

Music educator from the Australian Children’s Music Foundation, Rachel Scott will share her love of music with the children.

“One of the things I love most is to watch the magic of music infect kids and hearing lovely good news stories from the teachers later on,” Ms Scott said.

“The found objects are things that the children and teachers have found to hit.”

“It could be tables, chairs, farm equipment that is safe for the kids to use - anything that makes a sound.”

Ms Scott will be joined by her husband, percussionist Ben Sibson, who will bring djembe drums as well as drums from Africa, the Middle East and Puerto Rico to provide a half-hour concert for the children.

The pair will conduct workshops with the children, exposing them to good quality music education and celebrating music.

“Sydney based musicians often forget that people in the regions are just as interested in quality music,” Ms Scott said.

“Children are just as deserving of quality music education.”

“Music is something that everyone can achieve at.”

Ms Scott said that children who may struggle in the general classroom can excel when it comes to making music.

“It’s fun,” she said.

“It’s liberating.”

Year 6 students from both schools will perform in the free concert at 5pm, joined by the voices of the Murrumburrah Primary School Band - Young Regional Conservatorium.

Ms Scott said she was looking forward to working with the children and hoped that everyone has fun and leaves with a smile on their faces.
