For the first time since we were buffeted by COVID restrictions in 2020, the Annual Cherry Festival Competitive Art Exhibition is back for its 39th year.

The Young Society of Artists Inc will once again host the exciting four-day event as part of the Cherry Festival Program and is delighted to announce that the 39th Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley will officially open the exhibition on Wednesday, November 30 at the Young Town Hall.

Doors open at 7 pm and entry costs $5.

The official opening and award presentation will commence soon after, with light refreshments served in the town hall foyer.

Judy Barker will provide live mood music and there will be prizes to be won.

Everyone is invited to enjoy the grand opening and be part of the Governor’s visit.

Entries for the Exhibition were received from across the Hilltops region and beyond, with 235 entries in total submitted across nine categories, including the Children’s and Youth section.

Experienced Tumut artist, tutor and art judge, Jennifer Forster will judge this year’s competition.

An exhibition of Jennifer Forster’s work will be showcased at Burrangong Gallery at the Young Visitors Centre until December 17.

It has been a big year for the Young Society of Artists as they celebrated 40 years, having formed back in 1982.

Over those 40 years, dedicated members have provided learning opportunities and continued to support artists, giving them greater access to art spaces and creative expression.

Running alongside the 2022 Cherry Festival Exhibition is the Founding Members Exhibition on display in the Town Hall Foyer until January 2023.

Many people in Young would remember the names of the founding members and their profiles are included in the exhibition and provide some interesting reading.
