The Murrumburrah Harden Rotary Club has been busy in recent weeks preparing their secondhand bookshop called The Book Nook.

Rotarian Rita O’Connor said the bookshop was taking shape thanks to help from fellow Rotarians and the community.

“It has been a very busy week organising bookshelves and lounge chairs for the bookshop. We now have all the bookshelves built, placed and starting to fill.”

“Thank you to the community members and Rotarians who have been busy helping us.”

“This is a project that involves all interested people.”

“A bunch of children made the books hanging above the shelves and they look great. We hope to fill most of the shelves by the end of the next week or so,” said Rita.

Help also came from two generous local sponsors to get the project up and running.

“We have 2 major sponsors - Graymont in Galong and Bunnings in Young and their donations have really made this project possible. They have donated funds, bookshelves and paint and we thank them immensely for their generosity.”

Rita said donations of books have been rolling in from the surrounding community.

“We have had lots of people come and help and lots more donating beautiful books.”

“We’ve had lots of donations of leftover books from the Book Fair and other books from the Harden Library, as well as many people from town.”

“I am also expecting books that friends from other towns have mailed to us.”

Once the bookshop is up and running, Rita will put a call out for volunteers.

“I will shortly be asking for people who would like to volunteer some time when the Book Nook opens.”

“No firm timeline yet, but it’s pretty close. Till then, we appreciate the book donations and hope they continue,” said Rita.
