New, innovative, and unforgettable tourism drawcards that will bring visitors from far and wide to regional NSW are set for a major funding boost, thanks to the NSW Government’s $150 million Regional Tourism Activation Fund.

Young businessman, and community advocate for local tourism, Mark Briggs said grants like the Regional Tourism Activation Fund were very welcome. “Grants like this are quite good for the community,” Mr Briggs said.

“I know we need the tourism in town.”

“We want something different around the place.”

Mr Briggs has been plugging away at his own tourism venture, Brocky’s V8 Museum, and already has interest from keen motorist groups to visit.

Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke said the Regional Tourism Activation Fund continues to support the regional NSW tourism industry, making our region a great destination for visitors, with plenty of things to see and do.

“I encourage all tourism and attraction operators to apply for this wonderful opportunity, to showcase our spectacular region,” Ms Cooke said.

“This will allow for people visiting to experience all that the region has to offer and allow money to flow into local communities.”

“Round Two will also continue the NSW Government’s commitment to accessible and inclusive tourism by funding upgrades such as lifts and access pathways to give more people with disability the opportunity to experience what NSW has to offer.”

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW, Paul Toole said the Regional Tourism Activation Fund supports local economies and jobs by backing unique tourism experiences that will attract visitors and showcase what our regions have to offer.

“Regional NSW has the best destinations and experiences on offer across Australia, so it makes sense that we invest in new high impact projects that will drive tourism dollars into the regions,” Mr Toole said.

“In Round One, we supported more than 30 projects investing close to $30 million to bring visitors to the regions, including major upgrades to the Royal Flying Doctor Service’s Outback Visitor Centre in Broken Hill that is expected to attract thousands of people each year.”

“Every dollar spent by visitors at local shops, cafes, accommodation and visitor attractions provides a much-needed boost to our regional economies following COVID-19 and severe weather events that have hampered the tourism industry in NSW.”

The latest round of the fund is for high-impact projects that will increase visitor numbers, spending and the length of time people are staying in regional NSW.

The $150 million Regional Tourism Activation Fund Round Two is part of the NSW Government’s $3.3 billion Regional Growth Fund.

Applications for Round Two of the Regional Tourism Activation Fund remain open until 5 pm on September 27, 2022.
