Upgrades to Murrumburrah Showground Officially Opened
Official opening of the Murrumburrah Showground upgrades.
The recently completed upgrades to Murrumburrah Showground were officially opened last week.
Representatives from the Murrumburrah Showground Land Managers Board, State Emergency Services, Murrumburrah Harden Hospital Auxiliary, Murrumburrah Harden Show Society, Harden Pony Club and Hilltops Council joined Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke and members of the community for the official opening.
“This is an incredibly exciting day for Murrumburrah Harden as we officially open the refurbished facilities for this important community venue,” Ms Cooke said.
Completed work consisted of a major electrical upgrade and new toilet and shower facilities at the Showground. “The new amenities block, which is complete with toilets, showers and facilities for users with disabilities, replaces a completely inadequate structure that was in a dilapidated condition,” said Ms Cooke.
Funding for the project included $326,690 for the amenities block and $266,350 to remove overhead power cables and install new cabling underground. The funding was secured through round two of the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.
Murrumburrah Showground Land Managers Chair Jim Ryan said the completion of the electrical work is a win for the site. “The Showground is used all year round by 10 community groups and large numbers of visiting caravans from across the country,” Mr Ryan said.
“Now we have a safer site with better emergency management capability which, alongside the upgraded amenities block, will facilitate a wide range of events and a better camping experience for those travelling through this region.”
